the standard flooring measurement is done in square feet not linear feet. Linear feet means the total length of something. A floor has an area of measure (lenght x width) There are more details found on the installation instruction link below.

Hi Find the square footage (length times width) and factor by the width of the flooring material. If the flooring is 3" wide then multiply square feet by 4 for instance.

i'm not sure, but perhaps the square route of the area... if you knew the floor was a perfect square, i guess
