What code is stored?
Go here------>

http://autorepair.about.com/cs/troubleshooting/l/bl_dtcs_14a.htm

...and scroll down below the code definitions for the procedure and illustrations of the necessary components, and where to place the paperclip.
If the code you get is a "41", "42", or "43" the timing connector has been disconnected, or the EST module has failed.
The timing connector for that little pick-up is either behind the relay cover on the passenger's side of the firewall, or it is located under the dashboard between the glove box and the passenger's side foot vent and kick panel.
If this is NOT your problem, follow the prescribed diagnostic and repair procedures discussed in a decent repair or shop manual, available at the parts store, book store or at the local library.
Good Luck

You have to reset the "check engine light". However, there are other reasons that light comes on besides what you have mentioned. Do a code scan and see what it tells you. If it comes up clean reset the light and see what happens. Go to your local auto parts store and get a Chilton's for about $15. That way you will have step by step instruction, trouble shooting codes, pictures galore showing what you need to see, and tons more. Best investment you will ever make!!
