Like if I were to ask an African-American their heritage, would they say "Africa" or "50% Chadanese and 50% Ethiopian".

No, we do not know what part of Africa we are from. We are displaced as a result of slavery. We are called "African Americans" because we have African Ancestry and were born here in America. We have no direct knowledge of what country we are from in Africa because of being sold, taken from our families, losing our culture and language. We carry on the slavemaster's name. It has been too long to even trace back. Now there is DNA testing that can trace back but I don't know how sucessful it is with all persons.

If you were to ask me what is my heritage, I would say "African American". I can only trace back but so far as most African Americans. I would say that I can only trace back maybe three-four generations. If I had some mixture somewhere ex: great granparents were caucasian, indian, etc, than I would say that.

Some of us are mixed and know with what so we can say. As for me my great, great, greatgrandfather was Irish, but I don't say that because to me it was soo far back. When you look at me you see a black woman. Another example is my cousin who is half Italian and half black. I think she would consider herself half and half.

I hope this answered your question. Also there are some African Americans who don't consider themselves having African ancestry. They don't even use the term. They call themselves black but even that don't not give u an identity.

"Our EXPERTS warned us about the possibility of this phenomenon occurring, for they say that the mind has a strong drive to correct and RECORRECT itself over a period of time if it can touch some substantial ORIGINAL HISTORICAL BASE: And they advised us that the best way to deal with this phenomenon is to SHAVE OFF THE BRUTE'S MENTAL HISTORY and create a multiplicity of phenomena of illusions(lies).".....

....."for further severance from their original beginning, we must completely annihilate the mother tongue of both the new ****** and the new mule and institute a new language that involves the new life’s work of both. You know, language is a particular institution. It leads to the heart of a people.

Willie Lynch

In 1832 a U.S. Senator named Henry Berry said to the Virginia house of Delegates: "We have as far as possible closed every avenue by which the LIGHT (truth) may enter the slave's mind. If we could extinguish the capacity to see the light, our work would be complete. They would then be on the level with the beast of the field".

No, as stated, most african americans cannot trace their heritage back. But I am aware that most african slaves came from West Africa. That narrows things down but not much.

There's a DNA one can take to determine your heritage, specifically African heritage. I believe the web site to order the dna kit is africanancestry.com.

How could African Americans possibly know their heritage when their ancestors were suddenly snatched from random villages hundreds and hundreds of years ago. Not to mention that most of them were traded secretively, without any papers or documentation. Alot of names changed also, so it would be impossible to try geneology from a last name.

No most "African-Americans" would not know their roots. But then again the term African-American was made by Jesse Jackson and a good number of us don't consider our selves "African-American" just by our Name, American, or Black.

Black people don't really call themselves "African Americans", that's only a term invented by liberals as not to cause offense to any ACLU lawyers.

But after the liberal media figured this out, they started to all "-americans" to every ethnic group, so they could conform to politcal correctness.

Also, politcal correctess is a term invented by the Austrian school of lingustics- a predominately Jewish school- in 1923. (not drawing any racist conclusions here, just stating a fact)

So in conclusion, polical Correctness- which is used by lawyers in many "hate crime" law suits- is the scourge of our times.

Sorry I didn't specifically answers you question their.

It seems to me that many people (blacks and other cultures) don't know where their ancestors came from, and don't even care. It's a shame.
