With no end to the War in sight and Troop levels consistently on the rise (even as of today: reference the New York Times), would it be the worst thing imagineable to let our Soldiers come home?

And with a Democratic President, is this actually possible?

If we walk away from the war, we lose. If we stay and fight the war, we lose. I was trying to decide on the best thing, earlier in class. As a pacifist, about the only way to get out of this war without egg on our face, is to pretty much nuke the whole country. Unfortunately, I'm a pacifist, and just not going for it, since we started the war.

And all politicians are lying scumbuckets. No matter who you elect, they are going to lie, because that is what they do best. I would suggest that you vote the party I belong to, which is BITTER. Vote out all incumbents until they start getting it right.

To your first question: No! I don't trust anything the New York Times says anymore. I don't think it would be a bad thing to have our soldiers come home once the job is done. It's not done yet. If that were the only question at stake here, I might, possibly give a Democrat a try. If that Democrat were Joe Lieberman. There's far too much at stake to have a Democrat President. Look what they left us with: The worsened N. Korean problem and 9/11.

Here is the problem. As a conservative, I have a substantial amount of heartburn at what the Bush Administration has done viz a vis federal spending and especially immigration. But all one need do is look at the Democrat platform (or lack thereof) and you will see that they propose the same old policies that have proven time and again to fail. They propose to raise taxes in spite of the fact that lower tax rates have brought, and always bring, MORE money into the federal coffers. They propose to push universal healthcare which does nothing but lower the quality of healthcare for all. The Dems have voted consistently for the PATRIOT Act but allow their syncophants to claim that everyone's Constitutional rights are constantly being violated. They howl about the administration listening to phone calls between terror suspects and their suspected cohorts in foreign lands but offer NOTHING by way of suggestion when it comes to dealing with the issue of terrorists plotting against the United States. Their platform is HATE BUSH, HATE BUSH, HATE BUSH because they know that if they show their socialist colors, Americans will flee from them with good reason.

So, though I think my party takes me for granted, I will neither vote for the Dems nor stay home and not vote since that will have the same impact as casting my ballot for the much greater of two evils.

No. Even though I have sat and thought about this, I always come to the conclusion that the democrats would cower in the shadow of other leaders, letting the US down. Being such an important country, we HAVE to have out foot down at all times... whether the dems like it or not. Yeah, peace is an awesome ideal. I think peace is the best thing that could happen to the world. But with societies like N. Korea threatening to blow us up, are we expected to just sit around and hug the homeless people down the street?
We shouldn't be.

Not as easy as that. Wish is was, but global issues come into play. The USA were a long time an isolationist country up till World War II. That's when this country decided to come to center stage. We could, and I believe we should, call the soldiers back home. Nevertheless, that move would set an impression about the USA. Not many would take the USA as a serious superpower The USA would be regulated as an economic powerhouse, and not much of a military threat..Yet the soldiers should return. Of course, it's easy to say in hindsight, we should have only got involved in Afghanistan only, but the deed is done. We need to solve this Iraqi problem while pulling our troups out. That's why we have government for. If the Democratics get elected, this problem just gets passed along to them. That's all.

Listen, I'm as disenchanted with the current regime as any non-mouthbreather in the country; but the democrats are currently running on a campaign of "At least I'm not friends with Bush." This does not count as a valid reason for me to vote someone into office. If the Democrats would like to do something, or even say something, I would be more than happy to vote for them on their merits.

As for pulling the troops. I think we should begin, but slowly. Right now, our troops are the only thing holding up the puppet government of Iraq. If they all walk at the same time, the whole country crumbles, along with it's immediate neighbors. We've gotten ourselves into a bit of a situation, and it's going to take intelligence and diplomacy to get us out. Those are the things our current president lacks, and that's what I'll be looking for in the next candidate, whether they're republican or democrat.

No the worst thing imaginable will to be to go back to the policies of treating terrorism as a criminal problem. Like many Democrats want to do and did do during the Clinton regime.

This would significantly increase the ability of Al Qaeda to repeat a 9/11 type of attack here in the US.

Why not! Clinton might have the morals of an alley cat, but at least he got us out of the tremendous debt that the other Bush put us in and he didn't lie to start a war to boost his ego.

Voting Democrats into office is the greatest thing an American can do for America at this political juncture. The publickend party has made enough money off our backs and it's time for corporate America to give back to the people. Keeping Bush, our No. 1 terrorist, and his idiotic policies in check will bring sanity back to our government.

Political parties are merely an ILLUSION. Bush and other presidents are elected ONLY by THIS secret and evil group that's been in control of everything for far too long!...
