I was wondering when you all had your first ultrasounds?
I am 16wks - and my first one is scheduled next week. I have kept up doctors appointments and the likes, he just saw no need before this stage.
Did anyone else have their first scan this far along? Most books i've read say 12wks as the first one!

I have three children... and didn't get an ultrasound until 20 weeks with the first two & at 21 weeks with my third. I think it really depends on the doctor & what they are (or not) seeing, feeling, etc. I would not worry... I'm sure your doctor knows what he's doing (otherwise, you wouldn't be going to him, would you?) :-)
If he had reason to worry... he'd have ordered it sooner.

I had 3 ultra-sounds taking and 2 of them was before i was even 10 weeks. I had one when I was 6 weeks and then 8 weeks by a specialist and then I had one when I was 20 weeks. Everything was good but because I lost a baby before they were checking everything. You having a U/S at 16wks means you were doing OK and you didn't need to have them early, thank God for that. I think it depends on the doctor? I had my first one at seven weeks, but that was because my previous pregnancy ended in a miscarriage when I was 10 weeks along, the fetus was only the size of a six week fetus. Therefore, I had one sooner to make sure things were going well and development was happening. I do believe that they told me at the beginning of that pregnancy that an ultrasound wouldn't be necessary until almost 20weeks. I have had another one this time at 23 weeks to check development and confirm size with dates and find out the sex, etc. Good luck! :-)

I had my first ultrasound at 17 weeks. I go in October 31 for my second ultrasound. I am 27 weeks.

Im 18 weeks and havent had mine yet. My doctor does it from 18 to 21 weeks. Its always been that way with my other 3 pregnancies too, and I have had all different doctors with each pregnancy. Its better that way, because now if you want to know they can tell you the sex of the baby.

It denpends on your health and history. If you have a high risk pregnancy you get ultrasounds earlier. Remember that too many ultrasounds can be bad for the baby. Radiation and all that.....

I think it depends on the doctor because I had my first one at 10 weeks!!!

i had no scans at all with my older children and then i had one at 12wks with my last bcse i was over 35 and higher risk of problems. if you are young and healthy and certain of keeping your child then theres no reason to have one earlier.

well to be able to see the sex of the baby docs ususally give one anytime after 18 weeks or so anytime before if you wanna know the sex it is very hard to determine that soon...but I had mine at 20weeks 4 days
