Holy crap. Sometimes attending a Pink Floyd show makes you feel like you are on Wall street or something. And the amount of money that those folks are willing to pay for tickets- holy crap. I don't want this to sound like I am ripping on the band because I am not. They are extremely creative and rank in my top 5 of all-time. I just find it odd that middle aged yuppies can be attracted to the free spitrited lyrics that Pink Floyd wrote.

I have to be more clear here. I am a child of the 70's too.

Yuppies used to be hippies in the 60's/70's. Pink Floyd was THE band then get stoned to. Unfortunately, many didn't take PK's lyrics to heart & later joined "The Establishment" and the pursuit of wealth.

I fear that many yuppies who attend Pink Floyd's shows (or rather solo members thereof) now don't realize (or don't want to realize) what polar opposite their lives & PF's songs have become. They like the songs but have forgotten the meaning and importance of the lyrics.

Most of Pink Floyd's best music came out in the 70's. These yuppies were all in their teens when the music was originally released and they still love the music. It's not often that you can still see a show of a band that you loved in your teens that you can still love 20 years later. It reminds them of when they were young and getting high with their friends and didn't have to worry about earning money or being responsible. Most people don't get chances to feel like that every day.

Perhaps you should review your history. Pink Floyd began in the mid 1960s, which coincides with the period that the yuppies were in their late teens/early twenties and were known as the hippies. Pink Floyd was a very popular group with the then hippies and now yuppies and they have not given up their favorite music.

Take care,
Troy

You have to remember that Floyd started in the 60's when all these yuppies were teens. They were probably just as lost as today's youth and attracted to Floyd for many of the same reasons you are. Just because they grew up and got jobs and BMW's does not mean that they don't wish they were 19 again and free of most responsibility.

Hey guess what, the middle aged yuppies that you hate were teenagers when Pink Floyd was in their prime.
I guess even partying hippies grow up and look like boring old people.
It will happen to you too!
Sorry to bum you out dude.

Pop culture ruins all kinds of music. they listen to the noise rather than the words. I don't think anyone really knows how the mind of pop culture whores work but i often want to stab them and say "**** off my music"
