Globalization is causing the standard of living (wages and benefits) to go down for the average person in the US, because US workers are now having to compete with lower paid workers in other countries. IMHO, the only people who really benefit from free trade policies in the long term are high-level executives and shareholders of large corporations. My personal view is that the US should only trade with countries that have labor laws similar to ours (minimum wage, overtime pay, safety regulations). Too late for that now!
