a differing opinion has to be either right or wrong

if wrong, harmless

if right, beneficial

therefore it is logically mad to hate differing opinions?

Or perhaps they are uneducated and afraid to learn new ideas, bringing new challenges to their "set world view."

they are not mad at the other opinion they just believe THEY are right and you are wrong-end of story.
it is about being right and therefore BETTER THAN someone of a different opinion based solely on opinion
they can't argue that 2+2 does not equal 4 because everyone knows this so it has to be about the "gray" areas

Before EVERYONE "knew" the world was flat
NOW EVERYONE "knows" the world is round
IMAGINE what we will know in 1000 years

If difference exists and such difference is a state of madness from the one view logic says both are mad. Or at least from the other one's perspective.

For instance - I say I am correct and you are wrong, therefore you are mad. However..., you say you are correct and I am wrong, therefore I must be mad.

Its a matter of perspective. Of course the next question is, if either one of us is mad, is the one just mad as in nuts or dangerously mad as in insane... AH HAH! THAR BE YE QUINKY-DINK MATEY! Muahahaahaha!!

ones persons logic may well be different from anothers persons logic. to try and direct to someone that will not accept logical
answers/thought is in it self is illogical, so one would do well to close
the conversation thus making it harmless as you stated.
if you present a logical argument and the recipient agrees
then it is beneficial. thereby it is illogical to hate different opinions.
