I heard that 10% of the United States is gay. There are 800 kids in my school, so that means supposedly 80 are gay. Is that really logical?

Yes, in some "gay cities" there have been so many gay people who have moved there that it is closer to 20-30%....

Like Fort Lauderdale, FL - San Francisco, CA and certain parts of Manhattan, NY

But yes, about 80 of the students at your school would be gay on average....
Now, if you go to a Christian, Jewish, or Catholic School, it will seem like there are NO GAYS ANYWHERE..... but that is just because they are afraid to admit it until later in life....
Right now, politicians have cleverly made a sharp divide between people of faith and the acceptance of homosexuality....

Unfortunately, some of this burden is transferred onto our young people who should not be worried about this sort of thing...

They should be getting along with eachother and concentrating on their studies.

Logical? Not at all, statistics define averages and degrees of probability, they cannot be expected be exactly reflective of any specific group because there are many other factors that can apply. Where is your school, what is the social and religious climate, is it a Religious or Public school, is it a same sex school? All those factors must be considered, you also have to remember that those kinds of surveys were, and still are, based on the assumption that no one anywhere in the sample group was in the closet and that everyone was totally truth full and forthcoming in their answers. That last is by no means a logical assumption.

A lot of people are talking statistics, but another variable that may shift that number is the age group. Since I assume most of the jr high crowd is between 10 and 14, some may not have a great knowledge as far as their sexuality's concerned. Not only that but the general size of your school population (10% of 300 million vs 10% of, let's say, 10 people) makes that number seem even more improbable. It IS logical, because it is possible. However, it is also HIGHLY unlikely.

Hope that answers your question a bit. :-)

The 10% figure is from the Kinsey Reports of 1948 and 1953. The report stated 37% of males and 13% of females had homosexual experiences with 10% of males being more or less exclusively homosexual.
A 1990 study (Homosexuality/Heterosexuality by McWhirter, Sanders, and Reinisch) stated 13.95% of males and 4.25% of females had "extensive" or "more than incidental" homosexual experience.
A 1993 study (The Janus Report on Sexual Behavior) found 9% of men and 5% of women were involved in frequent or ongoing homosexual experiences, but only 4% of men and 2% of women called themselves homosexual. This difference can be attributed as those who were 'out' and those who were 'closeted'.
The 10% figure is most likely accurate for males, but appears to be less for females.

this is a scientific fact that 1 out of every 10 kids is gay. not just in america but all over the world and just because this is a fact does not mean that 10% of your school population is gay, it just means that ten percent of the worlds population is gay. there might only be five gay kids at your school or who knows maybe there are 200. but does it really matter? are you that insecure about your own sexuality? is there something on your mind?

Actually the real figures hover between 1-3% of the population. The 10% figure is based on the Kinsey research which , it turns out, was innaccurate and false. Kinsey later admitted to pumping up the numbers.

In the United States during the 2004 elections, exit polls indicated 4% of all voters self-identified as gay or lesbian. However, due to societal pressures, many who are homosexual may not be willing to identify as such.

The national stastical average is around 3 to 4%. Cut that in half that 2% or so are lez, and 2% or so are gay guys.

Stastically, gays have a 4 year degree or more of schooling, they come from middle to upper class households, they make an average of 55,000.oo or more per year.

Straights cover the entire spectrum of income, and social background.

This is why I do not support "gay rights"- its their choice of what they do. However, far from being an "opressed group" they make more money, have a higher educational base than straights.

In general, most American people are conservative, especially people from the southern states. Most gay people live in the East Coast and the West Coast. I don't think 10% of the whole population are gay.

Out of 800 maybe 55 have some form of sexual deviancy , homo , bi , trans , whatever . Of those 55 some will not ever come out and some will not come out for years. so what your getting is there are 8 boys that are gay that would act on it under the right conditions if you can find them.
