it's hard to protect because majority of the rainforest that now exists are located in 3rd and 2nd world countries and because they are poor, the lumber company clear cuts everything to make profit

Cattle. A lot of the rainforests is located in the amazon basin. To raise cattle for huge hamburger corporations in the US, trees are cut down to provide grazing fields. As mentioned above, profit is more important than environmental considerations.
