Turning dreadlocks into Medusa's snakes?

I'm going as Medusa for Halloween. I've got a couple ideas on how to make my dreadlocks look like snakes, but could use some creative input. Please no suggestions with googly eyes, I'm going for a serious costume.

Hmm. If you have a craft store nearby, get some craft wire that's sturdy enough but not too noticeable. Wrap a few of your dreads with the wire, just enough to get them to stand up a bit (if your dreads are *really* long this may not work).

If they've got a wire that's close to your hair color that would be perfect, otherwise spray your hair with green Manic Panic-like washable hair color and buy green plant wire.

As for eyes? Maybe some small black seed beads you could weave into the ends of your dreads? Two per dread, of course. Tongues may look a little too goofy for a serious costume. In other words, I can't think of anything besides red tube beads that could be woven in with the eyes (black seed bead, weave in...red tube bead, weave in at the very end of dread...black seed bead, weave in across from other black seed bead).

That sounds like a really cool idea!

I'd say use some of the florists wire, the kind they use for crafts & stuff - cut a length of that & put it down through the dreadlocks, then bend the wire to get the dreads to be shaped like snakes, or even stand out some. They have different degrees of fine-ness to the wire, you'll probably need the thickest in order to support your dreads & make them look appropriately snake-ey!!! I suggest buying a wig, a jamaican wig and dying it, because making your own hair into dreadlocks will tangle it up.
