well with AIM, you download AOL Instant Messager. Or with MSN or Yahoo. Whatever floats your boat. Then you make a screen nae and a password. Then you sign on. Then you have to add other peoples screen names to you list, and then you open their chat window and you type and press send/ enter.

You need to get a IM client like GTalk, AOL, or YIM. Then you need to register and get a screen name. After that it depnds on what client you use.
GTalk is the best but there are few people on it.
Most people use AIM.

at the right hand corner of your server when you are on the internet there should be a little blueish greenish person or cartoonish charector with a white one behind it. click on it and sign up. just remember to add your friends e-mail or just get a hotmail.
