I will say that the person Im referring to is a man. It's been almost 8 years so I know he's probably not changing any time soon. It's just a bummer sometimes when he's home from work. He makes the four of us share 1 or 2 drinks on the rare occasion we get to go out to eat, if grandma wants to take the kids out to a movie he tells her they don't need to go anywhere, if we are invited to a birthday party or with another family or out to lunch on a Sunday afternoon, 10 times out of 10 he says we'll skip it. The only way the kids do fun things, it seems, is if I take them while he's at work and doesn't know about it. But then they spill the beans. That's life I guess. Anyone else been there?

I think the first answerer is right, his problem is he likes to be in control. It sounds like he gets his kicks out of having you all under his thumb. I'd try to get away from this idiot if I were you.
