You can try the in gas tank cleaners, but they do an ok job and barely anything for the back of the valves. I have my own business and have performed several fuel injection cleanings by using a concentration at the rail from a canister. It works the best and all of my customers notice a significant improvement immediately. It's not something you can necessarily do yourself without the proper equipment, but you should be able to find some place that will do it for a reasonable price. I charge $99.95 for my fuel injection cleanings and do them at the residence of the customer. No way to beat that price and location.

NO MATTER WHERE YOU TAKE IT,EVERYONE BASICALLY CLEANS THEM THE SAME WAY . THE FORD DEALER,ACROSS THE FREEWAY FROM US, CHARGES OVER $300.WE CHARGE $69.95,AND WE BOTH HAVE THE SAME SYSTEM.CARQUEST,O'REILLY'S AND MOST MAJOR SUPPLIERS OFFER A 3 PART SYSTEM.ONE PART GOES IN THE OIL(I THROW THIS STUFF AWAY BECAUSE IT IS A SOLVENT THAT THINS THE OIL OUT.IT IS SUPPOSED TO MAKE EVERY THING CLEAN AND WONDERFUL BUT I USED IT ON A OLD BUICK THAT THE CUSTOMER NEVER CAME BACK TO HAVE HIS OIL CHANGED ON ,AND IT SEIZED UP) THE SECOND PART CLEANS THE INTAKE THROUGH A VACUUM LINE(THIS WILL DO YOU MORE GOOD THAN THE INJ. CLEANER)I WILL ALSO SPRAY THE THROTTLE PLATE WHEN I DO THIS.THE THIRD PART GOES IN THE GAS.HAVE FUN.....DONT SNIFF THE FUMES OR DO THIS INSIDE.(IT SMELLS TERRIBLE....SOMETIMES YOU MUST CHANGE THE SPARKPLUGS WHEN YOU GET THROUGH.....MUFFLERBOY

the best solution is a proper prevention. Use good quality fuel.
To clean them after the fact I would recommend a 'Motovac" .
This procedure involves disconnecting the vehicles fuel supply or disabbling it., and running the car off motovac cleaner.
