I asked this question about a month ago and everyone came back and said people were just trying to help kids. BS!!! I look at HH answers and people are giving the kids specific answers to specific questions. Don't answer HH questions. Kids have to learn on their own & you're not helping them, in the long run you're hurting them! I'm a teacher !!

I like the Homework Help section on Yahoo Answers, and I'm glad it exists. I'm not a kid; I'm a college student, and it helps me after school hours when I'm doing my homework, as there is no one else available. I think the majority of help is actually helping and not enabling.

True. Many people just blurt out the answer to the problems. But I offer step-by-step solutions and places to find the answers as well. Actually, the question-askers are also at fault. They should ask on HOW to solve a problem or WHERE as well.

Sometimes the askers don't really don't understand the problem, and sometimes they just make something up to give easy points. Some just want others to have someone else do the work for them, like, "OMG!! lyke, i need a sentence for these words!", or that they need a poem done (can you write it for me?), or the such. In that case, I share your diatribe.

But that doesn't mean we shouldn't help those who really need help. Learning is still learning, whether it comes from school or at home, books or the Internet. It is not hurting us as much as you would like it to. At home, they probably don't have anyone to help, or someone who CAN help, which actually describes my home, but I've been getting along fine for the past 13 years of my life. Perhaps they don't know how to use their resources well?

(Arithmatic) As for telling them the definite answer, I think showing the asker the right answer along with how to solve it is okay. Sometimes I myself am told how to figure something out, yet still not get it. Sometimes I have to look at the answer of problem and can figure out what I did wrong in my original work. (My English teacher would kill if she saw that I used sometimes twice in the same paragraph.) Not everyone is the same.

Anyways, I hope this will help deter you from thinking that "Homework Help" is all-in-all bad. But it's up to you; everyone withholds their own opinions.

I agree in SOME areas, but not all people answer the question down to the last detail, sme give you websites to read info. to try to mabe have the ppl have a better understanding of the question.

Others, yes, they just give the answer and that's that. Atleast if it was to have the answer PLUS a method or a description on why the answer is that, then that would be a good way for people here to answer.

Well...
I usually don't come on here to ask questions. If I do, it's only because I already did it but just want to check my answer. Another reason is if I REALLY, REALLY cannot find something. E.g. the volume of Angel Falls.
Take it from me, I'm a student.
I know that a lot of people may just post questions like
"OMG I NEED TO WRITE THIS ESSAY (somebody please write it for me)", and you shouldn't give them an essay...but people like me are just trying to get some help. I don't usually ask for specific answers, just sources.

You must be a poor teacher. Learning is learning, no matter where it comes from. It makes no difference to me if my kids read something in a book or ask me; just so long as they find out. ps. what sort of teacher doesnt know that it is 'tantamount' not tad amount? maybe you should have asked someone!

I agree with you. I do answer some of the questions but never give the definitive answer. What I try to do is point them in the direction they need to find the answer for themselves. People are much more likely to remember things if they find out for themselves.to me giving them the answer is like getting your big brother to do your homework.

I understand -- and have carefully chosen not to give an unexplained answer when I do respond to a question here. I don't think I've given a short answer yet!

Not really, kids ask their parents for help so what is wrong with getting a little help from strangers.
