monopoly is the definition of a 'roll-and-move' board game. Each turn, you roll the dice, and move a number of spaces that you have no control over. When you land on a space early, you buy. When you land on a space late, you pay rent. You should never make a trade that allows another player to gain a monopoly, so the only way to attain one is simply by luck early. It takes an enormous amount of to for the game to play you. There are so many other games out there that involve strategy that you actually have control over. There is no reason to ever play monopoly. Look up one of the following:
Settlers of catan
Ticket to Ride
Carcassonne
Puerto Rico
These should get you started. They are great games to experience how fun games can be (especially after playing boring monopoly), and from there you can move on to others if you find the desire to do so.
