I'll tell you from experience not only as a mother of 2 kids (one with severe stomach problems) and a medical personell that is something that your baby will not grow out of!
You need to find a gi specialist and let them check him from head to toe!, if miralax does not work something is wrong!
there is a ton of pediatric gi specialist out there, we have to drive about an hour to see ours but its worth it. A normal pediatrician has no business treating a baby with stomach problems more than a simple flu.

Been there. My daughter has had chronic constipation since birth. She would go a couple of weeks and then have a huge, and verypainful movement. She gets so blocked up that enemas won't even help her. When she was almost two, I thought she had diarreah because she constantly had a smear in her diaper. Turns out she was so constipated the liquid stool was seeping around the blockage. She has been diagnosed as having encopresis and is on a medicine called Miralax. She is making progress but the doctor says that we will have to deal with this issue for quite a while. Good luck with everything. It's hard seeing your little one in pain.

My oldest son had the same problem. He is 8 now and still tends to use the bathroom less regularly than I would think is normal. But when he was a baby, we would see his Lil face turn red trying to push it out. We would lay him on his changing table and "pump" his little legs for him. It really helped him. Also, sorry to be so graphic, when we did start to see the bowel movement emerge, we would take a wipe and gently pull on it to help him get it out. We also found that putting a little A & D ointment on a q tip and rubbing it barely inside his rectum calmed any pain but also helped with the next movement.

Good luck!! I know it's hard to see your lil one in pain over something that seems like it should be so natural!!!

My nephew did when he was little about 25 years ago. Ask your doctor about referring you to a second opinion. Just for your peace of mind.

My nephew had a rare condition that involved his lower bowel twisting - for months it won't act up then all of the sudden painful constipation then normal again. I forget how they finally diagnosed him but he is normal today .

I wish you the best and at no time did I mean to worry you.

i have not had experience with this, but i would suggest talking to another doctor. normal or not, you have to live with this, and it doesn't sound like your doctor has done enough to help you and your child. also, i would consider taking him to an allergist. a lot of food sensitivites make people gassy and cause diarhea, maybe this is his body's reaction. you could keep track of his diet for a week or so, then put him on a very bland, limited diet for a few days, see if anything changes. hope any of my ideas helps, and good luck.

sounds like he should have been breastfed. Im assuming he was not. You never hear of cases of breastfed babies being constipated. Breastmilk is a natural laxative. Your sons body was not made to digest formula (this is what initally started the problem.)

Have you tried glycerin suppositories? Next time he has trouble doing a do put a suppository in him and it'll all come out soft in 10-20 minutes.

My son was like this. Doc never offered much help to me. He did grow out of it after his frst birthday. I hope your son does too, it's no fun.

Give lots of fruits and veggies (avoid banana, apples, rice cereal) Lots of water, oatmeal or something with lots of fibre.
