People express part of their personality online. Sometimes they express who they would like to be and dare not be, or cannot be, face to face. If people have hate in their hearts, they may feel safe expressing it online. They won't be safe, because thoughts have power and as in the good fairytales the harm they wish will all come back to the senders amplified to their disadvantage. But it is a nice illusion for them while it lasts....like getting away with not paying your bus fare.

People are disconnected from one another and don't see the human beings behind the screen. It's easy to be rude if you don't have any consequences. The more an individual can dehumanize another the ruder the behavior. Consider slavery and the Nazi concentration camps.
