Poison oak grows along the east coast. According to a map I looked at it grows in all but four counties in New Jersey. I believe in the east poison oak grows as a shrub but along the Pacific coast it grows as both a shrub and a climbing vine. I'm not really sure what you mean though. I'm assuming you're asking about the poison oak plant that, along with its close cousins poison ivy and poison sumac, gives you a rash. Oak TREES are different and I believe the leaves and acorns may be poisonous if eaten. They have a wide geographical range so I'm sure they grow in NJ.
