I wouldn't lie, the truth always comes out, don't buy another rabbit before they come back as they are all different even if they may look the same. Can you imagine if you bought a different sex rabbit and they questioned you about it, then you would be in a mess. I would own up to them, they will respect you more for telling the truth. If the shoe was on the other foot, how would you feel?

Yes by all means offer to buy another rabbit to replace the first one.

Was you in when the cat got the rabbit, did you see it? If not for all you know the cat could have opened the run, unless it was padlocked but this could have happened to them any time by a cat or a fox.

Express to them how bad you feel about it. I feel that it is best to be honest, as you don;t want bad feelings with your new neighbour, things may be a bit awkward for a while put they will get better.

Good luck

whatever you do DO NOT go and buy another rabbit like people are suggesting. kids are not stupid and the little boy will realise its not his rabbit atall. even more so if the rabbit had markings on him.
if you can call the parents on a phone do that and talk to them first and tell them what has happened. the last thing you want is the little boy running to go see his rabbit and discovering an empty hutch.
the news of his rabbits death is best coming from his mother - she will know how to put it in a gentle manner. offer the mum that you will take the boy out to buy another rabbit of his choice aswell...dont just get a random one - let the child pick his own new bunny.
id maybe suggest a im sorry card to write to the family aswell.

everyone makes mistakes and you didn't make a cat attack the rabbit, have a word the the parents and tell them that you didn't latch the hutch properly and a cat got the rabbit. if the cat was trying to get into the hutch and the door had been locked the rabbit could just as easily have died from shock. lying won't bring the rabbit back and every child in the world would spot an imposter sat in their bunny's cage. be brave, own up, grovel there's nothing else you can do!

Tell the Truth, there is noway you could get an identical rabbit, even if it looked the same it wont act the same! just come clean tell the parents and let them decide whats best for the boy and offer to buy them a new rabbit and if u rabbit watch again.Watch over it better then the last one.

Well I watched Meet the Parents and in that he gets a replacement cat when he loses Robert De Niro's. I didn't watch the end of it but from what I seen it looks as if it all goes to plan so you could do the same thing with the rabbit (except replace it with another rabbit instead of a cat!)

Oh. My. Gosh! I agree with Angel. It is too late to save the rabbit. Now it is the little boy who needs cheering up. Responsibly tell the neighbors what happened and offer a new bunny. Give the little boy a new rabbit or a cool toy or something. Don't just leave and never speak to them again. The little boy needs you.

Just tell the truth! Dont tell the family in front of the boy though. Tell the parents you'll buy a new rabbit and the parents will probably say to the boy that it went to hair dressers and got a new look.
Good luck!

Just confess, and offer to pay for a new rabbit when the time comes. Also, never own any pets. A responsible pet owner would NEVER do something that stupid.
Oh, and tell the parents first, not the little boy. Let the parents tell him what happened.

Tell the truth....it is the only fair thing to do and then offer to buy the little boy a new bunny...not that it will replace their lost friend but so that the boy can bond with a new friend. Everyone makes mistakes....don't be too hard on yourself. Good luck doll ....hope this helped you out in making th eright decision.

Uhoh!!! well it depends on how old the little boy is? is he old enough to realise that it is not actually his rabbit. I would buy another one, clean the hutch so there is no mess left...then when they get back hopefully the boy wont notice. you can then sincerely apologise to his parents though, and offer not to rabbit-watch again
