i don't know if its southern Cali. but you should check out the Winchester mystery house. The wife of the owner kept building on it till the day she died because she believed that she had to build a room for everyone of the spirits that the gun her husband invented killed. She was really into spiritualism, held lots of seance's. The house itself is bizarre,doors open to drop offs,staircases lead up to no where,and theres been tons of paranormal activity reported there.

Knott's Scary Farm in Buena Park, Halloween Haunt in Valencia, Fright Fest at Universal Studios Hollywood, even small places like Scandia in Ontario and Victorville have haunted houses. I'm sure if you look around, maybe call a few places you'll be able to find more. But try googleing these and see the prices on their websites.

I'm not on the west coast. But I saw a TV show about the Queen Mary in Long Beach being haunted by several ghosts. Perhaps they have some Halloween festivities planned.

I don't know the scariest place... but the scariest thing to go see is ... oh darn... i forget! lol, I don't even live in Cali! lol, hahahha! I am on the other side!!! east coast baby!
