Should you include reference to ex-wife and ex-common- law wife or omit altogeher?

An obituary is a notice of someone's death and a brief biography. Relatives and / or maybe a very special friend are about all you need to include.
Respectfully, it is not necessary to include ex's.
But...If the ex played a very important and meaningful role in the decease's life, by all means recognize that person if you feel this is what the deceased would want. If not... don't feel obligated to recognize the ex.

You'd omit them because they're no longer part of a "unit" therfore, it's not a part of ones life.
