i want to start playing newer games such as Age of Empires 3 and newer but my Nvidia GeForce 5200 is "outdated". I have a P4 (3.0 Ghz), 1 Gig ram, and a large enough harddrive. Right now the video card is a PCI slot. My question, what is a good video card available now that will let me run this and newer games? I am about to tear into my tower to see if i have an AGP slot.... if I do.... please give me ideas for both the PCI only and the AGP only.

i tried updating the driver for my current video card but it made only a slight difference. Not enough to make the game run smooth like with older games.

They still make cards for AGP, they may be less common, but they are still around. The best out right now is the 7800GS, it runs around $250+, but if you plan on playing new games and want it to last for a year or two before upgrading, I would recommend this card.

They do not make video cards for regular PCI and AGP anymore. The newset bus on the market is PCIe. I too have a AGP and it is not worth updating cause I had really good one before they quit making them for PCI/AGP. You should check and make sure you have an AGP slot its a whole lot faster then PCI. I would try to get a card either from Nivdia or ATI that would have atleast 128 video ram. I would recommend 256 or more though. Try to get the last model they released for AGP.

If you don't have an AGP slot, the latest card you can get is an nVidia GeForce 6200, but a FX 5900 might actually perform better. I'm not sure what the ATI equivalents are.

As my knowledge, PCI-E x16 or AGPx8 is very good for every game.
AGP is most common use for game players.
