For young people, the major music genre is hip/hop, or R&B, and for adults, it's a wide variety still, with what are now called the "oldies."

What I'm wondering is: How many people out there still listen to, appreciate and/or like classical music? Even instrumental music?

To me,it's very enriching to listen to, and doesn't stress me out and make me more "upset" like other music 'can' seem to do... With lyrics, the music is imposed by offensive, crass, sometime downright confusing lyrics, and no one apprciatea the amount of effort going into the music in the background... granted even THAT seems to be going, with synthsizers, and computerized sounds...

Well I do like classical/instrumental music for sure. Actually I have a rather eclectic taste in music. My very favorite music is the acoustic mountain music as played at the Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View, AR. But I am equally at home with any classical concert also.

Actually there are two very fine blending of the two kinds of music. I suppose the most noteworthy one is Andrew Lloyd Webber's music which is as eclectic as I am. The other really fine blend of the old with the new in a classical/popular style is Mannheim Steamroller.

Not only do I listen to instrumental music I actually prefer it except in rare instantcies.

I'm always paying more attention to the music than the lyrics. A great song stands up even without the vocals. Sure there are great singers, but give me musicians that have good technique. When I go to clubs, I sit right up front watching these guys play. Blues, rock, jazz, and country instrumentals as long they have a melody. I don't really care for free form stuff though.

What you say is pretty accurate with the acception that I listen to Jazz. That's my dad's job. Lol. I love the oldschool hip hop, not modern rap that's all about sex, drugs, money, cars, etc. Oldschool hip hop was very artistic and peaceful. There are 4 elements of Hip Hop: Graffiti, Emcee, DJ, and the Breaker. Me and my friends BBoy to Funk, Hip Hop, Old school beats, etc. I'm white, they are all Asian/Pacific Islander. So what you say is pretty true, I think it's "cool" but I'm not doing it to get known and look cool to black culture. Just like in America, you will have all mixed races and styles, in Hip Hop, you will have the same. There's gonna be people who BBoy to Techno There's gonna be people who mix funk with rock There's gonna be people dressing differently to the originals Because Hip Hop is not only a style itself, it's YOUR style how you interpret/express it. Good question.

We love to relax to classical. I also listen to it in traffic, because it keeps my blood pressure down. Here is my current lineup:
Air on a G string, Cello Suite no. 1, Eine Kleine, Nocturne,
Canon in D, The Blue Danube, Fur Elise and some others I can't think of.
Happy listening!

Yes and one thing that really makes one appreciate it is so relaxing. We all have different tastes and styles but what a wonderful world we live in to have so much beauty around us. Many of us are blessed to be able to hear such joys.
