The book is also superb, but I like the movie a great deal. After Bill Murray bastardized Hunter S Thompson in Where the Buffalo Roam in the late 70's, Thompson wanted to make sure the next movie was done right. He insisted on meeting with Depp before the movie. I heard Thompson waded his way through a packed Denver bar by zapping people with a cattle prod in order to get to Depp. They then went back to Hunter's ranch for 2 days and tried to blow up an army jeep by loading it up with C4, and Gasoline, and firing rounds from an M16 at it. Thompson then decided that Depp would be perfect for the part. Pure Gonzo!

I read Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas whilst in aGreek Prison for having one puff of canabis in 1975.. I was in for six months. I loved the book, it overtook the paranoia of the fu.......ing Greek police. It took 25 years later for T. Gillian to do the film, as years ago in the olden days the effects could not have created the acid, specially the wonderful bit with the carpet in the casino....wonderful film, but, if you wish an early death, what a way to go eh....

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, genius. And though I have never wathed it, I have seen it multiple times. I consider Hunter S. Thompson to be one of my heroes. He breaks away from social conventions in multiple ways. If you truly admire his lifestyle, read his writings. May I suggest the Rum Diaries or the Great Shark Hunt. I think this may be in vain though because something tells me that you're not much of a reader.

All of a sudden the sky was full of what looked like huge bats.I looked at my attorney but he was rubbing beer on his chest to facilitate the tanning process. Time for a little snort of ether. Free lunch, final wisdom, total coverage. Dog's f*cked the Pope, brain orders from Captain Zeep.

Read the book years ago, loved it, one of the best and the funniest books ever read, so when the film came out years later I was very disappointed. Not a patch on the book.
