I would hope that I can be brave enough to perfect my soul in this life, since I have been blessed with many gifts, and the sin would be to squander them. perhaps then It would be worthy to be kept around after death. Try to be in life the way a mystical soul should be after life. Imagine acting on the instincts that we have that we KNOW could bring magic into another persons life, only we are usually too afraid of ridicule or rejection to try. That is life's big challenge to me. If I can get better at that, then maybe someday i will know the answer to your question.

What do you think happens to your soul when you die?
OR
What do you think happens to you when your body dies(drops off)?

Nothing much more than like the rest you get in sleep with or without dreams or deep profound slumber.
You become temporarily free of the bondage of body until you get a new one suited to work out your karma(fruits of past actions) based on your past vasanas(desires) & samskara(impressions / tendencies)
Just as old and torn off clothes are discarded for new ones similarly the old body is discarded for a new one by the soul(You / I )

I think Becky B has hit the nail on the head. Good job!
By electro chemical reaction (a synaptic impulse) our brains have been imprinted with a possiblity, that is that we possess a quality that is eternal. It is ingrained in our minds until we barely believe otherwise. But, just as the energy from a bolt of lightning disapates so does our soul. We may leave a mark in our world, for a while, but even that will disappear in time just as the lighting bolt does, just as the dinasaurs did, and just as we the human race shall oneday. Enjoy your life because you are mortal and mortals die. No more charge. Dead. -POOF

I believe in reincarnation, so I believe in the survival (and yes, RE-CYCLING!) of the soul after the physical body dies.

In some of the material I've read on this subject, the general
concensus of opinion is that our souls often hang around to watch our funerals! You get to see who shows up and who doesn't. How cool is that?? You can "haunt" the ones who don't...

Since everyone has a different viewpoint, I'll be interested in seeing the responses to this very interesting question.

And if you want to be agnostic about it, you can be. After all, that is YOUR choice. Maybe YOU are right. On the other hand, maybe I am...

Bless you.

In physicist David Bohm's Holographic view of the universe, the shorthand is that the only absolute existence is a choir of waves. These waves make up everything that is "physical" as well as "mental" to us. Or perception of reality is simply the biproduct of these waves being translated into a tangible form (the five senses) that we humans pick up and interpret as reality. In this, he theorizes that all "information" our "divided" consciousnesses posses (our own thoughts, perceptions) are distributed in some fashion throughout the entire "universe." This would explain many parapsychological phenomena such as telepathy and astral travel. He suggests that our conscious "selves" are simply compartmentalized sections of one true singular consciousness

The energy or consciousness that drives opur physical beings here in "reality" do not just simply disappear from existence upon death of our physical selves. I believe those energies then return to the realm outside our present perception and still, in fact, exist.

Im in the process of reading "The Holographic Universe" by Micheal Talbot (awesome book). In it there is a lot of information that gives credit to Bohm's theory; a scientist removed up to about 95% of a salamander's brain to find that it had absolutely no effect on the salamander's behaviour, documented cases of mind over matter phenomenon and tons of other stuff. Great book.

eek - now that is a loaded question

1. Who knows for sure that we have souls?

2. The religious debate...god/heaven/hell? Who knows? Reincarnation...etc., etc.,

I guess what my ramblings are trying to say is that this really needs to be streamlined. I mean, you can say, Christians, what do you think happens? Or, Muslims, what do you think happens? In general, this question can not be answered by the masses because there are too many variables.

But, I like where you're going with it. You got people talking.

Well just like you said in one of your questions that yahoo deleted. "Jesus is Lord" and the dead won't be able to delete Him then.Praise God ! One thing for sure is after death we will all stand before a righteous Judge. And we all will give an account, the good with the bad.The only hope we will have is if our robes are white, washed in the blood of the Lamb of God.Yahoo deleted your question because you said "Jesus is Lord" I would call on all Christians to give this Brother the Thumb's Up, as well as a prayer.

I believe in reincarnation - I think a person's soul is reincarnated until it becomes evolved and pure enough to remain in the spiritual plane without ever having to return to the physical realm to learn any more lessons.

i don't know if a soul has a conscious? if it is free of having a conscious, in the soul, then that's is great !!. all our lives this crap keeps me a wake at night, so if there's nothing left but the soul, mine wanders sinces birth,it leave me standing and people talk to me and both get mad because i left and it annoys them, so if i'm dead and don't have to answer to someone else it would speed up life after death endless persuits of happiness
