You can get out of the contract but you'll have to pay a penalty; usually $175.-$200. That was specified in your contract when you started their service.

I read an article in the paper this weekend that said one of the loopholes to get out of a cellphone contract is if the provider raises the rate during the contract. Apparently a few have raised the rates on text messaging, so you could actually get out of your contract.
