OK I also don't recall a V6 in the 76 Camaros. They did however come with 250 in line 6 cylinders. If it is an in line 6 any small block will bolt up to the bell housing. You will want to seriously consider a bigger clutch though. I think 80 was the first year for a V6. I had an 80 Camaro that had a 3.8 V6 in it. When I got it someone had already swapped in a 350, and left the three speed. I eventually swapped it for a T10 four speed and a 3;73 posi rear end. As far as the 3 speed holding up it will be fine. Mine was still working when I took it out. I gave it to a buddy of mine who races pro stock roundy round asphalt cars. Bringing me to my next point. That's what all the guys around here that run the smaller tacks run for transmissions, so they must be plenty rugged enough, they handle 600 HP 358s.

a V8 chevy is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2, dont know why you would run anything else in a Camaro anyways
