Multiply 3 on both sides:
3(1)=3(83/3-4x/3)
3=83-4x

Subtract 83 on both sides:
-4x=-80
x=20

Check:
1=83/3-4(20)/3
1=83/3-80/3
1=3/3
1=1

I hope this helps!

hey Ann,
which standard are u studying?

it is simple:

multiply both sides by common factor 3:

3 = 83 -4x
subtract 3 from both sides and then add 4x to both sides:
0 = 80-4x
4x =80
divide both sides by 4

x = 20
