i have had two children with no pain meds also. my friends who had epidurals had problems. one still has pain, a decade out. another lost nerve sensation for years. many have greatly delayed births.
stay away if you can.

I have had all my babies by C Section, the last 2 i decided to be awake for , i too am petrifide of needles and the thought of one going into my spine really scared me, i read up on it and the more i read the more scared i became, but when it came time to have the baby i thought "no turning back now" i braced myself for the needle going in, the next thing i knew they were turning me around to lie on the table, i didnt feel a thing, not even a slight prick, when i had my last baby i felt it and it hurt slightly but no more than having blood taken, just 2 slight pricks and that was it. If i could have more kids i would do it all again....what i had is called a spinal block, with an epidural they leave a very thin tube in your spin so they can top it up if you need it....both of these can cause you to get headaches after they wear off, i had no problems, but everyone is different...from one petrifide needle person to another, try hard not to think of what is about to happen and trust me if i can do it you can...

I observed a action picture while i became little the place a toddler gets locked in a church storage room.between the stuff in there became a large crucufix with Jesus on it.by way of fact the toddler is extraordinarily much ineffective from starvation,Jesus comes off the go and hugs the toddler and he dies.i became afraid of large church crucifixes for years after that. i did no longer understand on the time it became a effective element,i presumed Jesus became killing the undesirable toddler. My grandma used to take me downtown L.A. returned in the late 50s and we'd see some obscure action picture each and all the time(like' The purple Balloon','The Boy with the eco-friendly Hair' etc) freaked me out!

Both my children born without pain meds also. Why are you even comtemplating an epidural this time? You can do it, you can do it lol . A bit of encouragement for you. I can't imagine having a needle inserted anywhere near the spinal cord in order to anesthesize birthing process. Has been a "natural" process for millions of years without. Unless you're set for a caesarian.....you can do it!

in most cases the epidural hurts the way you would get hurt if you got a brief sharp thing stuck, its quick, and it keeps the pain away and most of us, have NO lasting effects. After it wears off, all is as before you got pregnant

I just had my first baby 7 weeks ago and my epidural didn't hurt at all. No pains in my back afterwards either.

When I've had mine done(2), the doc numbed each layer of skin as he went. Mine didn't hurt at all. It feels funny, if you feel anything at all.
