I found old mouse droppings in my basement?

but there are no other signs of a mouse in the house. Do you think the mouse is gone or should I start setting traps?

In my experience, if you see signs of one mouse there are probably more. Once they find their way in, they usually come back, or their relatives return. I have had good luck with Victor traps - cheap and effective. At my last place - a really old house with lots of entry points, the exterminator came regularly to spray for bugs - he also set mouse traps with bait - also effective.

It is also a good idea to mouse-proof the house - steel wool works best. Seal any cracks or openings you can find

If you found "OLD" mouse droppings in your basement, chances are, the mouse is dead, from OLD age... Okay, get some flour, and spread a light dusting of it in the area where the droppings were. If after a reasonable time, you DON'T see that it is disturbed, then chances are, the droppings are from a long-dead mouse. If, on the other hand, this is troublesome for you, by all means, set some traps to ease your mind.

Set Traps! I was going through some old boxes and found old droppings. When I started fumbling in one of them a mouse literally tried to jump straight up and out. Scared me to death. Also, I had bags of bird seed and potting soil stored in different places in the garage, and I found that they ate all of the seeds but left piles of the shells, and they kept getting into the bags of soil and making a big mess, even thopugh I kept retaping the holes in the bags. The worst was when a took a bag out to put soil in pots, and all of a sudden I saw movement. There was a whole nest of fetal mice. We set traps immediately (just the little kind with cheese) and caught 9 mice in 3 days. Also, I had put som,e bags of clothes in my car to take to Goodwill. A week or so later, I noticed that a bag of chips I had left in the car had been chewed through. I set a trap in the car and got him overnight! Thought I was done, but several weeks later I saw that a McDonald's bag that was left in the car had been chewed, and the mice had gotten into the car at the same time (in bags of clothes). Set trap and got him, and set traps for about 2 weeks to make sure. Think I have them all now!

I never knew I had mice, but my 2 cats have caught several of them over the last 3 years. Even thought I do not see them, they are sneaky enough not to be seen. Set the traps, or if you can, get a cat. just for the mouse catching, I will always have a cat.

put out a cheap poison found at tsc or a farm and fleet , it can stay there for a long time and not go bad and if there is one there is 10 , every three weeks they have another bunch of little one and breed right away , stop it on before you find then every where , clean up any food items to down there the poison is in a small tub they are green squares farmer

If there is 1 mouse you can be sure there is more. Just because you don't see anymore signs of them doesn't mean they are not there. Start setting traps asap. I speak from experience.

Sticky traps are crap. Buy the regular traps. Also, stuff some steel wool into any holes in the floor or gaps. Good luck sleeping.
