I have a '92 Cadillac DeVille, with a 4.9 ltr V8. My car has recently started idling very high, from the moment I turn it over. When I start it, it revs really loudly too. The worst part is that while i'm driving, it tends to accelerate all on it's own, and my gas mileage is horrible!!

Any ideas on what's causing this? or what I can do?

Idle control motor is out of control. There are several causes, one of which is the controller has failed. There are adjustments, but I recommend that you refer to a repair or shop manual for the correct year and model (Cadillac has several versions of this affair) and understand how it is supposed to work. Then refer to the manual for the CORRECT manner of retrieving codes, and the diagnostics associated with it (the correct manner for THIS car is not with a scanner). The codes read out on the Information Center will direct you to the correct repair and adjustments.
If this becomes too complex or confusing, I recommend you find a talented Cadillac ASE certified tech, or take it to a Cadillac dealer.

Good Luck

its most likely your throttle body is bad or is just clogged and sticking, it could also be your iac motor is hanging up, but i would bet on it being the TB.

Try abjusting you throttle cable and see if that does anything.
If that doesn't work you need to adjust your idle.
