Can you please tell me of a situation where you found strenght you didn't even know you had before? How can one go through a rough patch and still maintain a sense of self and of truth?

I'm sure you've heard the phrase, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger... People endure a difficult situation and it makes them tougher so when another hardship comes along, it wont be as difficult to endure.

If you have the will or the drive to overcome you will. I have been through a difficult stretch of years (many events happened in a 3 year time span) and I hated where I was and wanted to be a happy person.

Finding your sense of self and truth will be maintained as long as you are driven to overcome your rough patch... "how do you do it" is not the question. The more appropriate question is "how motivated are you?"

Ok I have many stories, but this is one that I will always remember... I learned a lot about myself, Pregnant with 4th child, going to school... and going through a very very bad custody battle with my x.... I thought I was going to loose it, or drop some of the balls I was juggling, I broke down a couple of time...! My friends were always there to tell me that I was going to make it, so when they weren't there I just remember what they told me about myself!! all of my positives, I finished school, had my new years baby... and my x and I got things figured out ... not that all is well now in that area, but man..... I was ready to get the rope!!LOL. Just remember to breath, and remember that life is what u make it!! I'm a much happier person now that, that patch is over! I found the truth!!

You don't know what you really want. Try to understand what is important for you and what's not. If you know yourself good enough, you will have more trust in yourself, because you will discover many good things. And you can avoid bad ones. This way you can maintain a sense of self that will not change through time.

My husband sustained a brain injury and a broken neck in a car
accident. Today is the one year mark. I moved in to the hospital
and later to a brain injury rehab to look after him. I was doing diapers
feeding, meds and washing him.(I am not a nurse) I was staying
up for 24hrs at a time when he was critical. I have him home
now. I continue to be his full time attendant. I gave up my
career as art director to look after him. People ask me where
do I get my strength? I KNOW its not my own but I feel really
taped in to something that keeps me going . Besides love
and just thankful I still have him.

each one of us has an inner voice that directs us to our answers. I think each of us knows what is right or wrong to do.
you ask yourself the questions until you can come to a decision that you are happy with and feel good about. If you cannot come up with the answer you can pray about it or you can seek advice from others or a professional. I think it is better to face the problem than try to figure a way of getting out of it.

These are all great answers. Take it one step, one breath, one thing at a time. Just get up and move. Rest when you're tired, then get up and do it again. The Lord bless and keep you through this hard time.

...it is all a matter of taking a step back, breath in, hold it, then breath out.....when you do this you will find your relation to whatever it is happening around you,...then you will realize that it is ok not to find a solution to a problem...but what is it that you can do right now that will ease your problem [a bit] without bringing harm to anyone

...it is just a matter of taking control...being able to hold the reins gives strength

MY ADVICE IS TO THINK POSITIVELY. AS SOON AS THOUGHTS OF SELF DOUBT COME TO YOUR MIND, TELL THEM TO GO AWAY. ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT THINGS COULD HAVE BEEN SO MUCH WORSE. THE FACT THAT YOU ARE STILL LIVING AND BREATHING MEANS THAT YOU ARE WORTH SO MUCH IN GOD'S EYES. FIRST PLACE TO START IS YOU. PUT A SMILE ON YOUR FACE. ONLY YOU CAN CONTROL YOUR EMOTIONS. KNOW THAT YOU ARE WORTHY OF HAVING SELF WORTH AND TO BE TRUE TO YOURSELF!!

Don't worry too much about doing the right thing, just avoid doing the completely wrong thing and you should be okay.

Jesus gives me my strength.

The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father's God, and I will exalt him. Exodus 15:2
