Why do you agree/disagree? If you disagree what do you think is the greatest rock song of all times? Here are the lyrics for Stairway to Heaven for those who do not know it:
There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
And when she gets there she knows if the stores are closed
With a word she can get what she came for
Woe oh oh oh oh oh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
And you know sometimes words have two meanings
In the tree by the brook there's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven
Woe oh oh oh oh oh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
There's a feeling I get when I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who stand looking
Woe oh oh oh oh oh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
And it's whispered that soon, if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forest will echo with laughter
And it makes me wonder
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow
Don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May Queen
Yes there are two paths you can go by
but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on
Your head is humming and it won't go because you don't know
The piper's calling you to join him
Dear lady can't you hear the wind blow and did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind
And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our souls
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll
Woe oh oh oh oh oh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
And when she gets there she knows if the stores are closed
With a word she can get what she came for
And she's buying a stairway to heaven, uh uh uh.

My observations that many people think its the greatest of all time is the fact that it is usually #1 on the lists of greatest rock songs.

If I had to pick just one, I'd pick Knights in White Satin by The Moody Blues

Hi Led Zep Babe.
Led Zeppelin is definitely one of the greatest rock bands. Stairway to Heaven is one of my favorite songs. I actually had a ticket to see them in the 70's in Philadelphia, but the concert was cancelled and never rescheduled. ( I think it's when John Bonum died ) Jimmy Page is definitely one of the best guitar players of all time.

It's up there (no pun intended). There are others that need to be considered as well. For example...
Money - Pink Floyd
Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd
Breathe - Pink Floyd
Jump - Van Halen
Tom Sawyer - Rush
Back in Black - AC/DC
Black Hole Sun - Soundgarden
Dirt - Alice in Chains
Iron Man - Ozzy Ozbourne
"No Stairway to Heaven??? Denied!"
R o c k O n ! ! !

It's probably in the top 20 or so.
How about these?
Nothing Else Matters - Metallica
Living on a Prayer - Bon Jovi
Welcome to the Jungle - Guns n' Roses
Sweet Child o' Mine - Guns n' Roses
We Are the Champions - Queen
Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
My mind has drawn a blank for others.... but there are quite a few more.

When you print the lyrics, it looks like the lamest song ever. Actually, if you asked a large sampling of people who have been alive long enough to have a sense of rock'n'roll history, I believe the answer would be (actually, it's obvious what the answer would be- drum roll please...) "Satisfaction", by the Rolling Stones.

I disagree, because it always depends on what type of rock you put this song in. Today there are many sub-genre's of rock, so nothing today is just called a rock song anymore.

I heartily disagree. There is no "greatest" rock song, many of them are "great".
