Mac. I've always had a Mac. The first computer I ever used was a Mac (a Mac II I believe, I remember playing Reader Rabbit on it), and every computer I've ever owned has been a Mac. That old Mac II that was my mom's when I was little is still in our basement somewhere, and it still works perfectly (albeit slowly and in black and white). The old PowerBook that I got second-hand from my dad when I was 11 (so about 8 years ago) still works perfectly. So does the iBook I got freshman year of high school. And my current PowerBook, despite having been dropped a few times, works perfectly as well.
My dad got a Windows machine once about eight years ago. He used it for maybe six months (if that). He ended up with two completely non-functional Windows laptops under his desk, and a shiny new Mac (which, to the best of my knowledge, still works).
All the Windows users I know have trouble connecting to the school servers, lose files, and occassionally have their computers fail competely. I've never seen a Mac do any of that. Plus just about any external hardware you can buy comes with drivers for Windows, and for Macs you just plug it in and it works.
Oh, and Apple has one more thing going for them: they don't have a history of using dirty business tactics to force their competitors out of business and monopolize the market with an inferior product.

PCs for hardcore gamers. Macs for everyone else.
Oh and Macs are MUCH more reliable, being that they are backed by Unix. However, if you grew up with a PC, you might have some trouble figuring out the differences between a Mac and a PC, but it is well worth it.

macs are made specifically for media (videos, music, ect.), and security wise are cheap
pc are around better, but are not that expensive and are hard to maintain security
