I was caught shoplifitng, and they took my license plate number down but I returned the items (which was 3) back to them, and I told them I would never enter the store again. Will they still file a report against me or anything like that that will go on my record?

I took 3 items, and I went out to the parking lot and one of the employees came out and told me to return the items. They told me they took my license plate number down, and advised me never to come into the store again. I haven't gotten a phone call or anything, or any police to stop by. Am I going to get a record for this?

I was not arrested or detained at all. They let me leave.

I work for a security company and we deal with this all the time. if no police were involved and it was just the store's loss prevention or store security, they did not prosecute, which means that you have nothing to worry about. However if you return to the store they now have your information on record and could call the authorities and your prior incident would have an affect.

Hopefully that will be the last you hear of it. Other situations I have heard about in the UK at least - people are usually just warned and let go. They would usually take you into the store and bring the manager etc... they take back the items and warn the person not to enter the store again. I wouldn't worry about it too much - there's nothing you can do about it, and it's hardley crime of the century! I'm not sure about American law - but wouldn't they have to prosecute and win a case for it to go on your record? Be smarter next time!

I would have beat your butt and then called the police. I mean heck you wouldn't have returned them if you wasn't caught so why think you did the good deed by returning them after they caught you. If you wasn't caught you would have laughed it off and at the owners and probably would have went back to steal again. But now that you was caught you are scared. People like you should be in jail. people who shoplift are the reason prices in stores go up. So the rest of us have to suffer because you won't get off your butt and get a job to pay for the stuff you want. Or if you have a job you just would rather take the easy way out and steal stuff. man you are pathetic.

Depends on the store. A small shop might let you get away with it, but most places would still prosecute in some way.
Giving the things back because you were caught does not exactly say you are sorry. Just sorry you were caught.
Sad that you had to steal $120 worth of goods. What is your life worth?
It should go on your record, but maybe the will be nice to you.

This time

Next time, think about what the risk is to your future for some petty theft.

Sounds like they gave you a get out of jail free card, my advice to you is to count your lucky stars, never go to that store again, and remember when your shoplifting everyone else has to pay for what your stealing by paying higher prices at the cash register.

it depends on the shop onwer or if its a chain store. i say: if your going to steal, steal from shops. if you get caught you can offer the shopkeeper a nice little bribe and an apology and he'll forget the whole thing.

If they just told you not to come back, they didn't file a report. Otherwise, the cops would have let you know you were under arrest
