Ive had it for 3 years now and I am wondering if a c section will be necessary or will I have to take supress therapy the last month of pregnancy to prevent an ob?

One of my dear friends has genital herpes and she has three children all delivered vaginally!
Please discuss with your Doc or midwife. She only could do the vaginal delivery because she did not have an outbreak when she went into labor...I don't know if she took any supress therapy.
You are not alone, many women have delivered vaginally who have herpes.
Congrats & good luck!!

ps - All three of her children all COMPLETELY healthy, no problems AT ALL. In fact, they are very bright, fun, sweet and loving!!

I think as long as the herpes are not "active" it's fine to have a vaginal delivery. I've heard that some doctors will go ahead and do a C-section just to be safe.

If you insist that you must have a vaginal delivery, you may do so. But the baby will have extremely high chances of contracting the disease....and that could put his/her life in danger.

I've heard that if you're not experiencing an outbreak or whatever, the baby will not get it if it passes through the birth canal, but doctors say that is untrue...and the risk still exists.

In order to have a baby, I'd say just to go through with the c section.

Sure, it is physically possible to have the baby vaginally, but my understanding is that it can expose the baby.

I *think* this can cause blindness?

Check with your Ob/Gyn - it just may not be worth the risk. There are some serious upsides to C-section too - your vagina isn't stretched out of shape, you won't "tear", you can pick a birthday, etc, etc - Many women are choosing this these days (the scarring is pretty minimal - you can still wear a bikini!)

Find out what the risks/benefits are - Best of luck!

I am absolutely terrified and I feel so alone. I just found out last week that I tested positive for hsv1 and 2. I have been with the same man for the past 10 years and within the last year found out that he has cheated on me with numerous women. I am so scared that I can give it to my children by kissing them and them eating with me...I feel like my whole life has changed. And even though the nurses, my doctor, and websites say that a lot of people have it I still feel like I am by myself. My self esteem has dropped and I feel like I have been used up. But now, My life is very happy.

well I went to planned parent hood with a friend when she found out she was pregnant the doctor told her that they will just put her on surpressive therapy and that having a baby vaginally would be ok. they said as long as she wasn't having an outbreak. long and behold 9pd 6oz later a healthy baby boy delivered vaginally.

You can have a vaginal delivery as long as your not having any symptoms and the doctors will do a test during this time.

Of course you can have a vaginal birth. The baby will need to have the erthromycin eye ointment afterwards, but there is no real reason that you can't deliver vaginally.
