like beetoven and mozart? they wouldn't recongnize the instruments, because guitars were the peasants instrument back then, and they didn't have computer editing techology, and rock is loud, rebellious, agsty music. some of the smarter ones who reflected these qualities in their symphonies might, but still, those who lived around 1850 and such, like bach and them?

they could also probably sit down and learn a punk rock song, say green day or black flag's in one sitting and write it all out.

rock is all about rebellion. i think they were too. just less rage and more page, as i like to say. that is, pages in a music book instead of yelling from memory

They would probably be facinated by the acceptance of such simple music. They created so many layers to get those sounds of the symphony. At least 15 different instruments, and the a few each with different parts. vs. 1 drummer, 2 guitarist, 1 bassist, and maybe acouple of others thrown in. the insrtuments might impress them, being electric and all.

Well, most music today is not very musically complex, maybe only like 5 or 6 different chords through the entire song. Their music was very complex and intricate. I think they would be appalled at how much glory is given to punks jamming on only 3 chords and screaming at the top of their lungs about disgusting things.
I know some rock is good, like metallica and such, I think they could appreciate complex music like that.

I think mozart would love it since he was deaf, he would be able to feel the music more because of all the base in most modern music.

Also I think it would take some adjusting to it but they would all like it as they were lovers of music. All music today stemed from the music of the past. One influenced by the other and then they influenced the next and so on and so on. I studied music from around the world in college, and I am a firm believer on this. With out the music of the past we wouldn't have music of today.

bach is more like 1750 . . .the baroque composers such as bach, teleman, vivaldi, scarlatti, handel would probably hate it at first, but then might adapt.

Mozart and Beethoven would probably go wild writing interesting stuff to fit with the rock music .. They would probably add a lot more instrumentation for many of the songs .. .

Beethoven and Mozart would still recognize good music if they heard it. They had their own folk music in their day, so they understood lyrics, rhyme, and melody. So the question is, what is "good music?" In my opinion, it is the creativity of the music that makes it good. A surprise turn, a memorable melody, etc. Or to come at it from another angle, they would think rap is crap.

They probobly wouldn't exactly call it "music", and it would definitely take some getting used to on their part. But your right. They would be able to sit down and play a green day song so easily. Music these days have no depth it seems.. And it's quite sad. I personally love the classical piano stuff.. Piano is my life. But heavy metal is my favourite type of music to listen to. So who knows man..

The music Mozart and Beethoven created was like the rock n roll of their day -- it was very progressive for the time. Maybe they would recognize current music for what it is worth and consider themselves like the Beatles to maybe someone else's one hit wonder.

Much of rock is at the edge of what can be called 'music'. Rock, like so many modern classical music, also tends to dislike real melody. OTOH, they'd all be intrigued. Bach can has been rocked up.

They'd prolly go into shock and pass out and have a dream about atomic bombs and rubber duckies and wake up and feel like their ears went out and think that the world was exploding and decide to go into hiding and be a hermit and live in a cave so that they don't ever hear noise again and then they decide to come out of hiding and start a hearing aid company that gives away rubber duckies.
*INHALES DEEPLY* by the way, you spelled Beethoven wrong!

They might not necessarily be against it. Listen to Apocalypticas version of "One" by Metallica done using cellos to see what I mean.
