many cultures found in the sun an expression of divinity. the egyptians had a sort of holy civil war about it at a certain time, and also greeks and romans deified the sun. its so evident that without sun there would be no life so it is quite normal that people would consider the sun as god.

They looked up in the sky, and there it was. It's hard to not believe in something that stares you in the face for half of the day.
