why is it that guys seem to get that distinguished look about them as they get older but women tend to look a bit more on the haggard side. i work in a shop and just looking at all the couples that come in and find it so strange that the guys seem to age so much better than their other halves. maybe its just me. but thats how it seems

Because at 15 men are still on puberty, full of zips, shorter than girls and looking for a hole to get into, while women at 13 are wearing short skirts, high heels and going out with 20 year olds!
At 18 men are barely starting their knowledge on relationships and women at 16 are getting around with know all 30 year olds.
At 23 men think they know women and still get the turnaround, while women at 22 are going for the 40 year old with the platinum card and the ferrari.
Finaly when men and women are both 29, 30 they realise the clock is ticking and stick with eachother... then after 20 years men get to recover and revenge the puberty years to hit on the 20 year old blonde sitting in the cafe every monday morning.
hmmmm, dont know if answers your question but facts show women last on average 7 years longer than men, looks or no looks.

I would say hahaha, but then someone would report me for not giving a proper answer. However I cannot answer this question as the premise is not right - guys distinguished and women haggard? Maybe the women have become haggard through stress and hard work, as the men have relaxed in their vanity. I do believe that being attractive has much to do with self-belief.

I've asked that same question and wondered for some time now myself. It could be because women look good when there young as guys look cute. But men grow handsomer and women seem to go down hill due to there looks when they were young. It's just the way it is. Although I've seen some beautiful older women and some down right ugly old men.

It's a matter of perspective and depth and gender. As an older man I have stopped looking only at smooth skin, lustrous hair, slim figure and agile movement. Look into the woman's eyes, see the elegance whith which she carries herself, appreciate that her sagging curves have born and carried her children (something men never endure) Listen to her voice and what she says. Look at each person as an individual. Some men look 60 in their 40's. Some women look 40 into thier 60's. Appreciate and admire your elders for who they are in their souls as well as their bodies.

I think it's just a cultural bias. Age is related to power and wisdom; women aren't supposed to be wise or powerful, so an old woman is ugly while an old man gets to be distinguished. In reality, I think both men and women can age well or poorly. I mean, are you really going to call Susan Sarandon less attractive than your average balding old guy with a pot belly?

You only think that because you're female and your brain is hard-wired to find the male face more attractive than the female face.

I'm a bloke, and I personally think that most women get more attractive as they get older, whereas men tend to look old and rough as they age.

Women definitely mature better than men.
Women tend to grow into their looks, and certainly don't even begin to flourish to their full potential until they hit their forties.

Some men do and others don't. The same goes for women. It depends on their genes and lifestyles to how good they look as they get older.

men age, women get old. that is the saying, anyway. obviously not true in all cases. I think that 1. women just worry about it more and 2. women judge each other more harshly.

nope. The 'older' people I've seen the men look like slobs and strut with their paunches out while the women are looking good!
