8x = 3216
x = 402 inches

A yardstick is 3 feet long. If the shadow is 5 feet long, then the tangent of the angle you're looking for is 3/5 (0.6). Remember "opposite over adjacent". If the shadow of the flagpole is 39 (195/5) times that of the yardstick, then the height of the flagpole must be 39 times the height of the yardstick. The shaDOW IS 2/3 AS LONG AS THE POLE. Therefore the pole length will be : 22.3333 x 3/2 = 33.49999999995 feet

use cross mulitiplication

1 foot= 12 inches
22 feet 4 inches = 268 inches
12in/8 in = ?/268 inches

(actual / shadow)

cross multiply... 12 times 268= 8 times ?
3216=8?
?=402 inches
