Awkward? No! It would be magical. I imagine it would go something like this:
We would both be in New York City for business of some sort. Just before lunchtime we'd be walking from opposite directions down a bustling, crowded city street. You would recognize my eye of course and exclaim, "Katydid!"
"Diesel Weasel! Is it really you?"
And then suddenly everything would come to a standstill. Taxis and cars would be motionless, people would be frozen in place. Everything and everyone except you and me would fade to black and white. We would hear orchestra music start to play, and as we turned toward the sound, Frankie would slowly appear before our eyes, singing, "Come Fly With Me."
You would say, "May I?"
"Absolutely."
We would dance beautifully and gracefully like we were born to do it. I'm sure we'd smile and laugh a lot, too. The song would come to an end, the music would fade, we would look toward Frank and the orchestra and see them disappear. The street would come back to life with noise and activity. All would return to full color, and we would step back and smile at each other. You would say, "Well, I have to meet someone for lunch."
I'd reply, "Me, too. See you later."
"Bye, Katydid."
We'd walk off in different directions with big smiles on our faces and a much lighter step. Just as you were entering the cafe to meet your lunch date, you would step aside to allow two patrons to come out the door. Morticia Adams and Uncle Fester would just be leaving. Morticia would pause and look right into your eyes, flash a devilish, sexy grin and wink.
You'd shake your head and mumble, "I've got to stop having drinks before noon."

It would depend on the situation, if it was through work, then probably not, but in a bar or outside of work it would probably be awkward because I don't do well in social settings.
