Just use a paper towel, wet it and dip it in to the ashes and wipe the glass. When clean allow the glass to dry well ,after starting a fire warm up the glass before closing the door (s).

I wash mine with a paper towel with water on it, just to lift the soot off. Then I use Windex, making sure I leave no streaks. Let the door stay open for a few minutes to make sure it is really dry before I shut it. The glass stays clean for 3 days or so. Make sure the glass is cooled down before putting water on it.

use vinager and water, dip into that a crumpled up news paper and wipe the sute away, it will help alot. you can also add a little lemon juice.
