Ferrets are great pets for the right owner. I'm going to tell you some just the opposites of what some others have said. I have 6 ferret and 4 kids (age 3-13). They get along just fine. My younger 2 have been taught how to handle the ferrets without hurting them or getting hurt themselves. My two oldest (12 &13) feed, water and clean the cages. If you keep the cages clean, use Bio-odor, keep their ears clean, and litter box scooped, it keeps down the odor. Much of the odor comes from the ears. Also the urine is what smells so bad not the poop but they do poop alot. They will always have a musky odor, but I can handle that over cat odor anyday! They love hammocks. If you keep the hammies clean and use dryer sheets that helps with odor too. The only time any of ours bite is if you try to play with them and they don't want to. Ferrets sleep 18-20 hours a day and are full speed ahead for the other 4-6 hours. We take ours out of the cage for playtime in a ferret proofed room. Many people with ferrets allow them the run of the house but we don't. Keep doing research before you get one. If I hadn't known what to expect before we got our first one, we wouldn't have kept him long. Ferrets are misunderstood little creatures. Get the book Ferrets for Dummies. It's great.

If you are ready to do some cleaning and show something a lot of attention, I would say go ahead and get a ferret.

I have two ferrets at home and would recommend them as pets for anyone willing to take care of them. You might want to start out with just one, but to tell you the truth it is much easier if there is two of them, because they will not require a lot of attention.

Your ferret will not stink unless you let it. You would never even know I had one until you saw it. Most people say to bath them everyday but this only makes them stink worse. In fact you should only bath them if they have something on them. They are pretty much like cats when it comes to cleaning them selves. When you bath them it makes the oil in there skin work harder and that is why they will stink.

Hope this helps.

Ferrets are okay, but if you want a pet that isn't going to be a biter, I would suggest a rat. Ferrets are good if you don't have anything that they can get into, have lots of time, and are willing to clean up after them on a daily basis. Ferrets are very high maintenance but can be good pets. If you have kids, they ARE NOT a wise decision, but if it is just you and you have the time that it takes to care them...then go for it!

FERRET, monkeys smell just as bad and are very mean. Do NOT get a monkey, you will regret it, i know it sounds like a good idea, it did to me to but trust me don't do it, they are SO hard to take care of, and some can be very mean, especially when they get older! I had a ferret not long ago, yes they do stink but you just have to clean its box, most of them are trained to go in a little box which makes it easy, and they are HILARIOUS pets, and totally adorable!

well i have two and yeah they smell but marshalls has this great stuff called Bi-odor and it's great stuff you can't smell them 1/2 as bad. but they do have health problems as they age. they only bite if abused or trained to do so; the one i am babysitting bit me the other day and i called his owner to tell him and he said he made him that way "when you play with him he bites down to say get rougher" bu my two are wonderful and play bite like puppies do. oh and they are highly trainable my little girl just learned to lay still and play dead. If you have already searched the net you are doing great but nothing prepares you for the fun and trouble of a wuzzle. if you can't be there to play with your ferret alot i'd get 2 and make sure the cage is big enough. any other ?s hit me up dark_princess2183@yahoo.com i can talk about ferrets all day they have become my life.

Ferrets are great pets! They are very friendly and playful. However, they stink! They are little devils too. They like to hide things. But all in all, they are great.

ferrets are great.. but i suggest that you get 2, because they are very very very social animals and if you only have one they crave alot of your attention.. They do poop alot but if you clean their cage then they don't stink. They nibble but it doesn't hurt. I had 4 of them and i loved them sooooo much.. But be warned that they do take alot of work.
