Since when do you have to pierce your ear to declare you're straight?

Back in the day when you couldn't come out as a gay man in public without fear of being killed, or beaten, only to have the person who did it applauded for doing it... horrible times, really, in the 70's and 80's... it was the right ear that signified that you were gay. People used this to communicate their preferences to each other... it was one way to do so safely.

In those days, very few women had more than one piercing per ear. Women with multiple piercings were assumed to be loose, or permiscuous... silly, really. How many of you have multiply pierced ears? My own mother does, these days - never would have happened in the 80's. Thank you madonna!

Nowadays, though, with piercings as mainstream as they are, there is no "gay piercing". I had someone ask me if was gay because I have my navel pierced (as a guy)... silliness. People get anything they can pinch pierced, so if you want earrings, go for it. I personally have 11 in my ears, 22 overall, and I'm straight as an arrow. No worries.

For you silly bigoted people who say that piercings are for rejects, or what have you - I don't leak brain fluid from the holes in my body - my master's degree trumps your ignorance.

Ear piercing is interesting anyways - have you ever noticed that stud earrings imitate the stretched holes provided by older traditions? Same thing with large hoops. They bring light to the face and draw attention to the symmetry of the ears and cheeks. That's why most people find piercing of the earlobes attractive.

Best of luck -

Rob

I have a friend with 4 on one ear and 5 on the other and perfectly striaght so it doesn't really matter, never tells for sure if you're gay, straight, bi or God knows what else lol
So.. pierce it and some might "Suspect" you're gay.
Stereotypes anyway vary, I've heard more about piercing each ear, just don't mind anyone.

The old saying that I have always heard is left is right, right is wrong. Left ear for straight people, right ear for gay people if you want to stereotype that is.

IT'S DEFINITELY THE LEFT SIDE IF YOU ARE STRAIGHT BUT IF THAT'S IF YOU ARE SURE OF YOUR OWN POSITION ON THE SUBJECT? MAYBE IT'S NOT THE EAR WE ARE TALKING ABOUT HERE SO MAYBE YOU SHOULD SEEK THE HELP OF A PROFESSIONAL AND GET SOME OF THE DEEPER ISSUES
THAT YOU ARE REALLY ASKING WORKED OUT FIRST! MAYBE YOUR NOT READY FOR THAT TRUE COMMITMENT SO PIERCE BOTH WHILE YOUR STILL DECIDING!!!

The conformist side.
You know, the one that listens to the judgemental opinions of sheep and then does what they say so they don't make vicious, unfounded assumptions based on ignorant stereotypical shallow physical observations that generalize people.

Just my personal take ...I think that any man who wears an earing is effeminate and looks like he is gay.
