We have a pair of pygmy goats, a whether, and a doe. They are brother and sister. We have a really large fenced in area for them, the ground covered in hay, with various shelters and other things to jump up on, and to play on. They have free access to hay, and they get grain in the mornings. One of us will go and brush them, or scratch them a couple times a day. It's a pretty nice life, for a goat.
MY QUESTION IS THIS:
The 2 goats have recently started crying or "singing" just making noise ALL DAY LONG!! do other goats just "BAAAAAAAAA" all day for no reason?
They do it while laying down, walking around, whenever. They don't look distressed, or out of food or water. Their pen is clean, and "poop free". IS THIS NORMAL?
When I go out and talk to them, they will stop for a minute or two, but start right back up, even when I am STILL there.
AND THEY ARE LOUD!!!
I'm worried about my neighbors and the "annoyance factor"
(yes we are "zoned" to keep livestock)
any ideas??

I have 36 dairy goats. You should here the racket coming from my house lol. I have some that only do it once in a while. But a lot of them make noise all day long. This is breeding season so it is much worse. The bucks make more noise than the does do. This may be part of the reason they just started doing it. Even though your one goat is a whether your doe doesn't know this and sometimes the whethers will go into rut this time of year. A lot of whethers will try and breed does. As long as your taking good care of them I wouldn't worry about it. A silent goat would be more of a worry to me than a noisy one. Pygmy's are very vocal. Good luck with your goats. They are great pets. As for how to keep them quiet, I have never been able to keep mine quiet. After a while you will get used to it believe it or not..lol

Yes most goats to BAAAAAAAA all day long. I would have to say you do take care of them well though. I have sheep that BAAAAAAA all the time but my neighboors don't complain because they know they moved to a place zoned for livestock. It sounds normal to me. Is it getting colder where you live because if so their hay on the ground might be dying not as much for them to eat of not as good quailty.

Make sure they don't have an irritation like fleas or skin problems... could also be medical with one and the other does it to mock the 1st...

Could also just be that they a making up for the silence of the lambs! (sry, had to be said)

is it like a destressed baaa or a sort of nicker. if it sounds destressed you might want to take them to the vet. they could be in some sort of pain like founder or something. if it's just like a nicker they might want you to came and visit them more often. my goat was resently sick so she still recovering but before that she would "nicker" often. the anwser above mine is another posibility.
