Based on what I know of the story the movie (of the ones I've seen) that comes the closest is Excalibur. The book I like the best is "The Once and Future King." It is very satirical and sections of it are hilarious. PS - Le Morte d'Arthur, which is the original story, is a very tough read. I couldn't get through it.

depends on how old Merlin is at the time. He was born an old man, and is moving backwards through time. Immediately after his birth, he could do anything he imagined. Don't forget he's not human also.
