In this sentence, the persons emotional state of mind (the crisis they are enduring) caused them to be talked in to something (influenced) easier then they would have normally been.
The crisis is causing this person to be easily talked into something. If not for this crisis, it would have been more difficult to be talked into it.

To influence anything, not only in this context you have provided, is to exert input into it. You influence someone's decision when you argue persuasively and they listen to you. You influence the weight of an airplane when you board it. So in this context you provide, it means that if I were stronger and more independent, as usual, then I would not have been so compliant to this other person's will or suggestions.

It's used meaning that he was able to sway you into his way of thinking. If you weren't having a crisis you would have chose differently.
