Could an astronaut on a space walk hear the engines of the space shuttle through the vaccum of outer space?

NO. There are is no medium such as air, water, etc. to carry the sound wave.

Well yes and no, See a space ship dose not use it's engines in space it uses burst of air just little pops, Remember the is no gravity in space. which means no friction(.000375). Also A shuttle is moving wail in orbit at about 18,000 mph or one lap around the earth every 90 min. So he might here the pop but more then likely would notice the movement first
