HP and Compaq are now owned as one company. Although, I have heard bad things about Compaqs. If they're still made in seperate places, I'd much rather never get a Compaq. Of course, I do like HPs a lot (as far as PCs go).

Compaq used to be a seperate company, but HP bought them a while back. They kept the seperate brand names to market the systems differently. HP's computers are more media driven (home movie editing and the such) while Compaqs are more utilitarian.

Well HP stands for Hewlet Packards and Compaq is Compaq. Both are different brands which sell computers.

My dad works for HP. It used to be Compaq but HP bought them out...before that it was Memorex. So I guess the answer is there is no Compaq anymore. It's all HP.
